Research Theme 1
Research Theme 1 covers Systems engineering, systems integration and modelling and simulation of systems and systems of systems. The DSIC Director, System Engineering is Dr Stephen Cook, University of South Australia.
Proposed research projects include:
- NCW Evolution Strategies drawing on product and MSoS evolution knowledge from industry, knowledge of mission requirements, problems and constraints from Defence and academic and commercial research.
- NCW Experimentation, Project De-risking, Interoperability and Usability Research.
- Semantic Interoperability undertaking research in knowledge technologies (knowledge bases, constraint reasoning, ontologies) for achieving the adaptability and interoperability described by the USAF Semantic Interoperability (SI) Capabilities Based Assessment and Technology Roadmap.
- Project-Level Evolution of Operational Capabilities to develop systems approaches that will provide practical guidance to Defence to plan, acquire and insert new system components into operational platforms and to industry to respond to requirements specifications over the lifetime of the platform in the context of changing force needs.
- Evolving Safety and Interoperability Compliance Cases in Response to a System.
